Water filters are an important accessory a coffee maker must have; it is not a necessity, though for one to be able to produce a good pot or brew, this is essential. Regular tap water is normally considered as hard water; it is filled with countless minerals and can contradict with the taste of natural coffee. It is a fact that if one would opt to use soft water (water which has been filtered); the brew is guaranteed to taste better as the coffee will be able to maximize the extraction of its flavors. However, if one would rather use regular tap water, the taste may not bother them, though what they are mostly not aware of is the fact that hard water has the tendency to leave mineral deposits in the coffee maker thus shortening its life span.

Another of the coffee maker accessories are the coffee filters; these filters the ground coffee which one needs to be able to produce a pot. These are used especially in drip coffee machines; these prevent the ground coffee from getting in the rest of the brew thus making sure one does not accidentally sip any coffee residue in their cups.

There are three different coffee filters available to choose from; there are the regular paper filters which are the most common; though they serve their purpose well, there may be traces of paper taste when it is used in a brew. There is also the cloth filter; they are safe to use and are environment friendly as they can be reused after in between rinses. Finally, there are the Gold coffee filters, lined with real gold, they are not cheap and these are not as common as the two above mentioned; though these can last for long periods of time without giving any peculiar taste to the brew.

Coffee mills or grinders are also coffee maker accessories; these enable one to grind pure coffee beans and turn them into freshly ground coffee even on a daily basis. It is a compact machine which is equipped with razor sharp blades to be able to grind the coffee beans in to a fine powder.
